Abstract

We have read the recently publidhed research article entitled “Evaluation of the Knowledge and Attitudes of the Primary Care Physicians in Preoperative Evaluation” with great interest. As a result of this study, it was seen that the majority of family physicians think that family physicians should be responsible for preoperative evaluation. It is an indisputable fact that family physicians, who are the foundation of the health system, should be knowledgeable and responsible about preoperative evaluation. Because it is inevitable that family physicians are better than branch physicians in evaluating patients as a whole. As a result of the same study, it was suggested that preoperative evaluation trainings should be increased to primary care physicians. It is also a fact that specialist physicians do not fully comply with the guidelines in preoperative evaluation. It is noteworthy that specialist physicians perform extra tests in contrast to the recomendations of the guidelines in clinical practice.
